Focus on... IKA Membership

Written by Editor on . Posted in News

A lot has been discussed and guessed about IKA membership, but here are the facts.

The International Kiteboarding Association is currently transforming from a riders association to a national classes association. Once this process has been completed (due to constitutional neccessities) there are three main types of membership:

FULL membership: this membership is open to all national kite associations, or institutions governing the sport of kiteboarding in their country

ASSOCIATE membership: supporters are welcome. This is the one for clubs, schools, shops... everybody interested in the support of the interational class.

INDIVIDUAL membership: for competitors from countries where there is NO national class associations. Only in this case you need to become individual member if you want to compete in an internation event. BUT - we will provide constitution templates which will make it easy to set up a national class association, and we offer any organization help for the ones interested in doing this.

What does this mean for the "standard" kiteboarder ? Usually nothing. If you are not into competitive kiteboarding, nothing changes. You do not need to become member of a regional, national, or international association. Just go riding and enjoy our wonderful sport.

For those of you that are into competitive kiteboarding, you need to be member of you national class association anyway, so nothing changes there. If there is none - you can either become individual member or found a national class association with your buddies. We will help you with everything needed.

The main idea behind this is to encourage groups of competition riders to organize themselves - if you can setup schools and shops you should be able to organize your self as well for your own benefit.
