Canada Kiteboarding Association joins IKA

Written by Editor on . Posted in News

ckaThe Canadian Kiteboarding Association (CKA) is pleased to announce its formation as the official governing body for Kiteboarding in Canada. The CKA will join the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA), the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) recognized world-governing body for the sport of kiteboarding.

“Today marks an important day for our sport in Canada”, said Ben McNabb, Chairman of the CKA. “Not only does it provide Canada with a governing body for competition, but it fuels the global campaign to have kiteboarding included at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro”.

In its inaugural year the CKA will work with event organizers to implement internationally recognized competition rules and unify the Canadian kiteboarding scene with a national ranking. Doing so allows Canada to call upon its best talent and send a strong contingent of athletes to international competition.

“We are more than happy to welcome the CKA as the latest addition to the IKA family of national member classes”, said Markus Schwendtner of the IKA executive committee in Germany. “We look forward to the important input from the North American kiteboarding community towards the continued development of our rules and regulations, and for exciting competitions held on the waters of Canada” he added.

From coast to coast the CKA has received overwhelming support, including that of Canadian pro rider, Sam Medysky. “I’m really excited to see the CKA come together and even more excited to officially represent my country at international competitions and with fingers crossed, the 2016 Olympic Games.”

So is the CKA.
