The International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) is launching a campaign to gain inclusion of Kiteboard Racing as an event on the Olympic Sailing program for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.
Already the campaign is carrying a lot of momentum. Personalities such as Virgin Group Chairman Sir Richard Branson (GBR), double Olympic Medalist Michael Gebhardt (USA), 9x Kiteboarding World Champion Kristin Boese (GER), Mr. Neil Pryde (NZL) and many more are supporting the effort with full force.

The world rankings for the four official disciplines Freestyle, Course Racing, Wave and Speed as well as the Overall have been updated after the latest PKRA event in Cabarete and the KTE stop at Sylt including the European Racing Championships. The Freestylers making their way up now in the Overall Ranking with the points from their latest events and can only be held back by multi-discipline riders. Still on top are Jesse Richman (USA, Cabrinha) and Kari Schibevaag (NOR, Ozone).

After 12 races at the European Kite Racing Championships at Sylt/Germany, the top three men are separated by less then three points, with the leading Bruno Sroka (FRA, Cabrinha) and runner-up Rolf van der Vlugt (NED, Airush) only 0.3 points apart. With possibly more races tomorrow and the last discard tensions are high who is getting the European Championship crown in the end. |
